If your postage item is up to 25mm (= 1 inch) in thickness, you can use the thickness bars on the Home page to determine which postal category your item falls into.

These bars will appear on your screen with values very close to 5mm and 25mm, but depending on make and model of phone, the values might vary slightly.

For most measurements, it will be quite clear, which thickness category your item falls into, but if the item thickness is near the limits (5mm or 25mm), then accuracy of the thickness bar is important and you should make sure the app is calibrated before use.

Calibration is very simple:
- Click on the Letter measuring tool on the Home page. The Letter/2D page opens. Now measure the width of the 25mm thickness bar with an accurate measuring rule. Note down this value.

- Go to the Preferences page, tap the Calibrate tab and alter the value in the Calibration section.

- If the thickness bar measurement is LARGER than 25mm, then set the Calibration value to a NEGATIVE number of mm, which, if subtracted from the measured value, would result in the desired value of 25mm.

- If the thickness bar measurement is SMALLER than 25mm, then set the Calibration value to a POSITIVE number of mm, which, if added to the measured value, would result in the desired value of 25mm.

- A dialogue box will appear asking you to confirm your changes. Either confirm the new value by tapping SAVE, or cancel, by tapping DISMISS.
